Perfect brunching at The Modern Pantry in Clerkenwell

If you find yourself wandering around Clerkenwell of a morning looking for something to eat there might be several options but The Modern Pantry is by far the best choice in my book. For starters, I would be quite happy transplanting their interior into my kitchen. It’s just the right balance of uncluttered yet cosy and homely.

On the weekend you might be seated in one of several rooms and have a small amount of peace if you arrive early enough, but during the week you will generally be seated downstairs with the local advertising and creative types having breakfast meetings. Perhaps you are having a meeting yourself?

The menu options can be equally as varied from a quick muffin to a more elaborate affair. That said, the muffin was a pistachio and berry combination which was more to my liking than the overly sweet and sticky varieties you get from the coffee chains.

Weekend brunch offers ‘fancied-up’ standards such as egg on toast and pancakes. I had the pancakes which had an advised waiting time and included ricotta and poached apricots – delicious! They also have fresh mint tea and rooibos tea. Two of my favourite drink options post breakfast. So an absolute winner in my book.

Afterwards, you can head on over to the Museum of the Order of St John which is next door.
